Doing our bit for the environment
It’s in everyone’s thoughts right now. Extreme weather conditions are being triggered around the world due to global warming; including floods right here in the UK.
The challenge has been thrown down to all companies to be a part of the solution, and we’re determined to be at the fore-front of this drive.
Water demand in the UK is set to rise by 33% within the next 30 years. Our custom built overflow water system at our fabrication site in Oldham, captures used water, cleans it and recycles it, requiring only a minimal amount of fresh water to be introduced for every job. Recycling our own water helps to reduce stresses on the UKs treatment plants as well.
Next we turned our focus on deliveries. Previously it was common to receive 2 to 3 deliveries per day, adding to carbon emissions. Now, after working closely with our suppliers, we have taken diligent steps to reduce deliveries by 70% simply by creating large bulk orders and organising single deliveries. We sought to further reduce transportation carbon emissions by sending electronic brochures over physical ones.
Electric consumption is also on our minds. Our showroom in Manchester has been fitted with clear roof panels. This allows completely natural light to enter during daylight hours. This system requires 66% less lighting during dull days; and during lighter days our showroom lights are completely turned off, reducing the need to consume generated power.
And now we’re introducing a new range of quartz products; manufactured with the environment in mind. These materials are manufactured using reduced water consumption, renewable energy, lower silica content and recycled materials. All of the stones below have been designed to be kinder to the planet. We know this is only the beginning. We will continue to innovate and improve our systems so that someday soon we will join the growing list of carbon neutral companies and do our bit to protect the environment.
